Carbon Fibre Traction Splint
Traction splints are most commonly used to treat severe midshaft femur fractures, as well as fractures of other limbs. The femur is the longest and strongest bone in the human body;
the surrounding muscles (quadriceps) are also incredibly strong. When the femur breaks, the surrounding muscles can spasm and may pull the bone ends past each other, causing immense pain, bleeding (internal or external), and muscle and nerve damage.
- Relieve the tissue pressure on the fractured leg by means of traction applied, thus avoiding further hemorrhage.
- Shock and secondary nervous, vascular, bone, and muscular damage.
